I'm Coach Lauren Dickerson and I will be coaching your players for the HRYB Blastball Spring 2023 season. I'm excited that we have a great group of players on our team! For those of you who don't know me, my husband, Mike, and I are parents to James, a three-year old player on the team. I spent a decade coaching youth rugby, but we’re new to blastball! We look forward to meeting the players and playing baseball!

If you are new to blastball, check out this short video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuToXVTAuvI). The base really does honk!
-
Our first order of business is to choose a team name and cheer! So far, the suggestion on the table is being the Rockets or the Space Rangers with a cheer of “3, 2, 1, BLASTOFF!” Please send me your ideas! Once we have a few, I’ll send them out for a vote.
Schedule:
Our schedule will kick off on 1 April. We will have team pictures on 6 May and our season will wrap up on 3 June with HRYB Day. During the season, we will have a 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game each Saturday except for 8 April. The schedules are not finalized yet but will be soon. Most likely each Saturday we will be playing on the baseball fields at Dranesville either from 9-10 or 10:30-11:30. In case of rain, I will send an email if the fields are closed.
-
Please plan to have at least one parent on the field with your child for practices and games. The kiddos are quite young and it will help them to be less afraid and will allow us to do more with our practices if we can have adults running skills stations that the kids rotate through. We’ll need help with batting, throwing, and catching!
-
Our goal is to have FUN! Please bring positive attitudes and words of encouragement for all players.
-
Active little bodies need frequent refueling! We’ll want to be sure we have snacks for the kiddos. We can handle this a couple of different ways: one family can be snack captains (with contributions from the rest of the team) or we can rotate snack duty. Please let me know what you prefer. Also, please let me know if there are any dietary restrictions for your child.
FIRST Practice/GAME:
Our first practice/game is 1 April, which is the Saturday before Spring Break. Unfortunately, I will be out of town that weekend and will need someone else to run the practice and game. I can coordinate getting the equipment to you. It’s not that much, just a large bag that easily fits in a car trunk.
Equipment:
-
No special equipment is needed for Blastball! The players do not need gloves or personal bats/balls.
-
Uniform t-shirts and hats will be provided (colors/sponsors TBD).
-
Please ensure your child has water and sunscreen as needed.
-
Your child will be fine in tennis shoes and pants/shorts and you are welcome to send them in cleats and baseball pants if you prefer.
Social Distancing/Masks:
Players/coaches are welcome to wear masks if they choose to. There is no social distancing or mask requirements by the county or league. Please keep your child home if they are sick.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. You can email me at LaurenMikeD@gmail or reach me on my cell. Please note, I cannot respond to texts or calls during business hours. Email is best for urgent matters.
Thanks!
Coach Lauren
