HOYB Cal Ripken League Parents/Coaches/Managers:
The HOYB All-Star travel team is a wonderful program designed to allow children who
love baseball the opportunity to continue their baseball experience
into the summer. Teams typically begin practicing once or twice a
week in early May, during the House League season, and can practice
3 or more times a week once the House League season ends, with
tournaments or scrimmages on weekends.
Memorial Day weekend is
usually the first tournament weekend of the All-Star season, which
normally ends in late July/early August. Most of the teams resume
practicing and playing in September, in a limited capacity, during
the Fall House League season.
The tryouts for our league all-star teams will
be on Friday, April 25; Sunday, April 27; Friday, May 2; and Sunday, May 4.
The schedule for tryouts is as follows:
Friday, April 25
10U Tryouts are at Herndon MS #3 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
8U Tryouts are at Four Seasons Field from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.
Sunday, April 27
12U (50/70) Tryouts are at Bready from 12:30 - 2:30 pm.
11U (50/70 Tryouts are at Bready from 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
11U (46/60) Tryouts are at Bready from 5:15 - 7:15 pm.
** Note this will be the only tryout for 11U**
9U Tryouts are at Herndon MS #3 from 3:00 -
5:00 pm.
8U Tryouts are at Herndon MS #2 (closest to the school)
from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm.
Friday, May 2
9U Tryouts are at Alabama Park from 5:30 -
7:30 pm.
Sunday, May 4
12U (50/70) Tryouts are at Herndon Middle #3 from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
11U (50/70) Tryouts are at Herndon Middle #3 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
10U Tryouts are at Alabama Park from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
Because of the time it takes to sign in all the players and get them
organized, we strongly suggest that players arrive 30 minutes before
the tryout start time.
To be eligible to make an all-star team, every player must attend at
least one full tryout for that team. Also, a player may try out for
more than one team. However, to be selected for an all-star team at
a higher age level (for example, a ten year old trying out for the
11U team), that player must be ranked among the top eight players.
Evaluators at the tryouts are primarily managers from teams in our
league. Their combined rankings select the top eight players on
each team. The remaining players are selected by the all-star
manager.
For those considering trying out for the 11U teams, your child will automatically
be considered for the 11U (46/60) team if he/she attends the 11U (50/70) tryouts.
The 11U (46/60) manager, John Broussard, or his designee, will attend the 11U (50/70)
tryouts to evaluate the players. However, considering the difference in field
dimensions/distances and play, it may benefit your child to attend the 11U (46/60) tryout
as well if that is an option you are considering. If you do not wish to try out for the
11U (50/70) team, then solely attend the 11U (46/60) try out on 4/27, 5:15 - 7:15 pm, at
Bready Park.
Again, if you have any questions, please fee free to email or call.
Thank you,
Leon Newsome
